A chemical peel is a professional exfoliating treatment that removes dull, damaged surface cells and stimulates the formation of fresh, healthy new cells. At Behr & Bush, we use Circadia's advanced peel system (including Lactic, Alpha/Beta, MandeliClear, and Vitamin A Accelerator formulations) to achieve visible, long-lasting improvements in texture, tone, and radiance.
Chemical peels offer a range of benefits that go beyond simple exfoliation. They help brighten and even the complexion while minimizing fine lines and smoothing rough texture. Peels also work to refine pores, reduce congestion, and deeply hydrate the skin, leaving it with a refreshed, healthy glow. Over time, consistent treatments stimulate cell renewal and collagen production, strengthening the skin from within and revealing a more radiant, resilient appearance.
Facials are designed to hydrate, relax, gently correct, and maintain your skin's health, while chemical peels go deeper to address specific concerns such as uneven tone, acne, or texture. Think of facials as maintenance and peels as transformation. A Level 1 peel can take the place of the exfoliation step in your facial, so you get the best of both. Your esthetician will guide you on when to incorporate each for the best results.
We typically recommend Level 1 (gel-based) peels every four to six weeks and Level 2 (ethanol-based) peels every eight to twelve weeks, depending on your goals and your skin's response. Peels work best as part of a progressive series rather than a one-time treatment, allowing your skin to gradually strengthen and reveal brighter, smoother results with each visit.
Yes, when performed thoughtfully and progressively. Our Level 1 peels, like our lactic gel peel, are ideal starting points for sensitive or reactive skin types. Your esthetician will always assess your skin first to ensure that every treatment supports your barrier while delivering results.
To be safe, we don't perform any chemical peels during pregnancy or while nursing. Your esthetician can suggest safe, hydrating facial or enzyme options that still help you maintain a healthy glow during this time.
Results vary based on your skin type, age, and home care routine, but with regular treatments and consistent aftercare, the improvements are cumulative and long-lasting. Over time, your skin will become more balanced, hydrated, and resilient, maintaining that radiant, post-peel glow longer between visits.
Aftercare depends on which level of peel you receive. Level 1 (gel-based) peels have little to no downtime. Makeup is fine to wear the same day, and if any light flaking shows up, just avoid picking at it and let it shed naturally. You'll go home with an aftercare card and a sample of our Post Peel Balm. Level 2 (ethanol-based) peels call for more care: don't wash your face for 12 hours, skip makeup until the next morning, avoid heat, exercise, and direct sun, and use the Circadia Post Peel Kit provided (Vitamin Veil Cleanser, Vitamin C Reversal Serum, Post Peel Balm, and Light Day Sunscreen SPF 37) to protect and restore your skin. Visible peeling may occur for several days after a Level 2 peel, but with proper care your skin will feel refreshed, smooth, and renewed.
